"Forces of Nature" | Ecolutions Fashion Show 2018
Materials: Earth, Cement, Sand, Embossing Powder, Mesh, Burlap, Cotton
Invited to design for Pittsburgh's annual Earth Day fashion show, the look was designed using one of the most ample yet neglected materials around us: dirt. Incorporating the earthen construction technique of earth-crete, the look made use of earth, concrete, and sand to create casted geometric pieces to adorn the garment, made of cotton and burlap scraps. From over twenty other looks, the design was one of the four winners of the evening's juried competition.
From the show's curator, Richard Parsakian:
"The event challenges Pittsburgh-based designers to incorporate recycled and reused materials in the creation of original pieces designed for Pittsburgh Earth Day. This year’s theme, ‘Forces of Nature, That Which We Cannot Control Will Move Us,’ was an attempt to show the forces of humankind that have an emotional connection to the earth…"
