Digital Doctor is an AI-powered EMR-integrated patient communication and clinical decision support tool created to expedite emergency care delivery. Within moments of entering the emergency department, patients will use our interface to provide a history of presenting illness, in their own words. This data, along with our automated EMR review algorithm will be used to anticipate and pend medical screening orders for a clinician to verify. As a champion for care transparency, Digital Doctor allows patients to sign-up for real-time updates on their medical orders as they are being moved through the emergency department. Our goal with Digital Doctor is to leverage AI to benefit patients and bring clinicians back to the bedside.

Digital Doctor was completed as part of Hexcite, a 16-week early-stage medical software accelerator program for entrepreneurs hosted by the Johns Hopkins Medicine Technology Innovation Center in collaboration with Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures. Care providers with an idea who are eager to drive change within their practice are matched with business, design, and technical team members to work together in creating a software solution that will improve patient care.

Digital Doctor was awarded First Place at the Hexcite MedTech Pitch Competition.

Over an 8-week period, our team partnered with TechX (a large international technology and data company) to address governance challenges, focusing on improving team functionality, time and task management, and navigating power dynamics within the organization. Our solution was the development of a Center of Excellence concept, alongside the optimization of process flows and communication channels.

Utilizing the Design Thinking approach, our team employed a user-centric approach to problem solving involving empathetic interviews with employees from different departments and levels, leading to a deep understanding of their experiences and challenges. This foundational work enabled us to identify key pain points and areas for intervention. The project progressed through stages of ideation, where collaborative feedback informed our direction, and prototyping, where we developed and refined over ten models aimed at resolving the identified governance issues. Testing these prototypes with department leads allowed us to fine-tune our solutions, ensuring they met the needs of TechX effectively.

This initiative was critical for TechX as it seeks to align its CO&I and Data Center operations, enhancing collaboration and efficiency. Our efforts aimed at resolving misalignments in priorities, improving communication, and eliminating redundancies, thereby supporting TechX's mission to deliver top-tier cloud processing capabilities.

Alluminare seeks to explore how fashion can exist outside the spotlight through the incorporation of resin with textiles to create wearables that reflect a hard softness and transform in emphasis. During the day, initial thoughts are formed about a garment- its form, the fabrics, and how it fits to the human body. It is only when darkness falls that the true nature of a piece is revealed. Different areas are colored and covered, and the transition from light to dark highlights distinct geometries that may not initially be apparent. Through the generous support of Art N’ Glow, Alluminare is an inquiry into materiality, hybrid textiles and viewer experience. Completed as part of Lunar Gala 2019: Anomie and research on the creation of photoluminescent resin textiles.

As one of the oldest construction typologies in existence, earthen construction serves and impacts billions of individuals worldwide. However, as a material that has served as the basis for civilizations, lifestyles, and spaces to be built upon for centuries, earth has seen waves of (ab)use, shifting, and trauma by humans. We now associate it with pollution and laden it with toxicants, only to then excavate and dump it, cover it up, and hide its imperfections beneath layers of asphalt and concrete. 

Dirt Forms looks to connect people back to their surroundings, one another, and the material world around them through the power of earth. The project highlights earth as a means for space and place-making: a way to inform thought, action, and collaboration through the creation of an introductory guide to adaptive earthen construction techniques. 

By looking at implementation in Pittsburgh, an opportunity arises to widen the impact, usage, and audience making with dirt can have by navigating the unique challenges of working in a post-industrial context. Through a hands-on process of making with the material, Dirt Forms encourages individuals to share their process and experiences in order to add to the evolving lexicon of earthen construction and further the potentials of earth as a material for sustainable creation in architecture and design, now and in the future.
